What a year!

Since I wrote a few lines last summer so much has happened and not happened. Despite all the restrictions and difficulties caused by the pandemic, we managed to rear and sell all our turkeys last year. There were times of doubt in October and November when we would normally have sold all our birds as growing poults and still had a lot left but our redundant dairy buildings were repurposed to accommodate them and eventually there was strong demand. Keeping the birds longer enabled us to check their weights better and we were happy with our choice of breeds.

This year it is hard to predict sales. Some long-standing customers have already placed orders and even increased them. Several customers cut down last year with the uncertainty of demand and problems with sourcing casual labour for plucking and may do the same or retire this year. With no crystal ball available, we have decided to decrease our day old order slightly and cut down on the larger breeds but broadly we will have the same breeds and hatch dates as last year. The main difference will be the cost. Day old prices have increased by over 5 per cent and feed prices and other input costs have all risen as well. We have tried to keep the grower price competitive and will continue to deliver larger orders.

Unless specifically requested, we will not be sending out printed price lists by post to help save costs. All the information should be on our website. Please email or phone to discuss any aspect of the poults we supply.

Wishing you a healthy , successful year.
